If you are a huge LOTR fan then I'm sure you will no doubt find enjoyment, at least to some degree, from TTA, however don't expect the story to suck you in as the novels themselves did. Want it today Check to see if your items. Please note : Preowned versions may not include additional content. It's kind of a nice retreat from the plot. The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age (Xbox). Once you have completed each area you are given the option to replay it as Sauron's/Saruman's forces and can take a break from liberating Middle Earth to "open up a can" on the good guys for a change. Your characters will change in appearance as you discover newer, better items to equip and by endgame they will be sporting some pretty high-class stuff and look the part, too. Visually, though, the game is right up there, with nice spell effects and creative attacks. Initially a novelty, they became increasingly annoying as time passed. They almost literally interrupt the flow of the game in between every battle.
The other complaint I have is that there was a ridiculous number of clips from the movie trilogy inserted into the game and when I say ridiculous I mean it. I won't spoil the ending but we'll just say that you go from fighting in one place to the next thing you know thrust into the ultimate battle with no explanation as to why, or how you got there. As you probably know already, the main characters in this game are new creations, and not the heroes from the films.
There were a lot of high points to the game and I'm not saying it wasn't enjoyable, but by the end the plot was just getting ludicrous, and in a VERY plot-centered world as Tolkien's LOTR, it really detracted from the fun. The Third Age is a thoroughly enjoyable game that should entertain you for a lengthy bit of time. However, When all was said and done I must confess I was not wholly satisfied. Comments: Being a big LOTR fan I bought the game a while back.
